This machine is a small desktop unit that is one year old. It originally came with Vista installed but from day one I overwrote the Visa and installed Linux.
Now, due to work requirements, I'm being forced to install Win XP Pro. I tried but it would not install due to lack of drivers. When I contacted HP's support site this system states that it is Vista only and therefore no drivers are available for XP.

I am assuming that I "should" be able to locate all the necessary drivers (a very tedious job) so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas to accomplish the feat with a little more ease? Also, can anyone recommend a site containing drivers that might work with this system?

I appreciate any suggestions and ideas provided. And, NO, I will NOT consider Vista. FYI - I am now running VM Wkstn with an XP guest but this is quite cumbersome for the required tasks.

well, without really knowing which one of the 77xx series you have, each may be different or they may be the same, I would say that it uses standard components, which there are XP drivers to be had...

ie. the HP Pavillion S7712n Desktop PC

Chipset INTEL 945GT - Intel website for the drivers...
Audio Realtek ALC 883 - Realtek website for the drivers...
Video - see the Intel website for these aswell...

Manufacturer of the mainboard, who would have thought, is ASUS, so cross referencing with the ASUS website should find a usable driver for almost any piece of HARDWARE...

Gents;
Thanks for your initial suggestions. I will be searching through the recommended site.

FYI - the model is an HP Pavilion Slimline s7700n PC

Runs Linux like a champ. Runs XP in a VMware Wkstn window like a champ. Won't run XP directly. Go figure.

that is because VMWare emulates hardware that XP has covered with generic drivers...

For the S7700N:

Audio: RealTek -
NIC: RealTek RTL8201CL -
Graphics and Chipset: nVidia - VGA Card = 6150LE
Chipset = Nforce 430

You need to navigate to the driver DL area, there you can choose to download the Chipset and the Graphics driver... this should take care of most of your stuff...

about the HP Keyboard, you will have to do a trial and error with the HP Keyboard drivers for XP

Board Manufacturer: ASUS
Type: A8N-BR (OEM for HP)
Form Factor: miniITX

Hope this leads you to the right places...
