I have servers in a test environment and need them to be restored from production servers. The test environment has it's own network and cannot be connected to the production environment. In the past I have used a backupexec server to backup the production machine and switch the network to the test network then restore to the test server. Our NetBackup environment is much bigger and I can't just unplug it and plug it into the test network.

I would like to hear what some of you have done to restore to a test network.

Thanks!

Treat it like a DR exercise. I build a new master, same name and IP, and just plunk the needed catalog files onto it from production. The entire environment is different - no fibre, only 1 tape drive, etc. so I just create the required storage unit and drive and go from there. I back up selected items for the catalog and only bprecover the basics for the new environment. Anything else I need I restore from the master's own full backup.
