Sorry to say, my baby (system built in March) is having trouble...

MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU, XP 1700+ CPU, 512 Mg Crucial PC2100 ram, Visiontek GeForce3 Ti 200, Plextor CDRW, Aopen CDROM, Aopen floppy...WinXP Pro. Ran fine 'til a couple of weeks ago.

Problem started with Aopen CDROM...no big thing...quit working...cheap to start with. Took it back they send me new one...no go. System saw it once, then (wouldn't open or play) refused it saying it was ATAPI incompatible. Then didn't see it at all.

Took it back to the shop...few days later they call me and have me come see it run in Acer system. Good deal.

Won't work in the system...started looking...Event Viewer sez mebbe wrong IDE controller driver...deleted the driver...reboot...reinstall controller driver. Still no go.

Begin questioning IDE controller...reverse IDE connections (had 2 hd on IDE 1, CDRW/CDROM on the other) no boot...no way. (proper changes made in BIOS on this one to make sure I was asking nicely)
Still no CDROM in slave/master setup (tried both ways)
Tried changing cables and relationships...

Call MSI, they give me RMA and I just wanta' make sure I'm not overlooking something before I send this off for 2 weeks in the turnaround.

Later this morning I'll do the requisite checking/twisting/reconfiguring before shipping it...
one thing I notice about the board (probably the only thing I'd criticize about its layout...other than the AGP slot and PCI slot 1 being too close together)...is that the screw pattern leaves 1 corner and side (where the IDE hookups are) unsupported so you have to be careful to support it when changing them. (Hope I haven't cracked the board.) Did most of the build with the board out...CPU/HS, ram and such installed 1st...then put it in.

Played a CD this a.m. and WMP won't close out and will not (even with TMgr stop)...last night I used My Computer
...which quit responding...and when I Task Managered it out...it took desktop icons and taskbar with it...

Somewhere in this sequence yesterday I did a repair install of XP and reinstalled via 4-in-1...

It still will once in awhile make me do self-detect on the drives to bootup.

Just tried again to play a cd...stoopidly opened My Computer to try getting it to play...notice it's not populated...sees nothing...Task Mgr. it out...there goes the GUI...able to switch task to get active things back...but Taskbar and icons are gone from screen.

Missing anything?

Well, just as I sent this lost the shell completely...see now left off WD1000JB 100 Gb HD...and have another sitting here that I was about to use in Raid...

No problems on the reboot...

Event Viewer sez the driver detected an error in IDE Port 1...so I think I'm seeing my problem clearly...was just hoping.
