each time i open my documents or any of tis sub folders some icons (weather folders or whatever) appear as thoght i clicked them once or selected them to hilight them but i havent done any thing and it wont go away. im using XP PRO.

Is it only My Documents (and sub-folders)? What about other folders?

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

no sticky key and i tried that file checker but it still didn't fix it.

Just some more thoughts no real idea as to the "why".

Have a look at Visual Effects have you checked any boxes there? Try switching it off if you have.

In the Mouse properties is it set to "Snap to"?

Have you been experimenting with compressed folders?

Have you checked fo viruses with "all files" selected and updated virus definitions?

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

it appears it only happens when i have icons shown as thumb nails but i would like to fix it because i like my thumbnails. the tweak ui thing didn't work.

Is it possible that you have that folder setup to Single-click with mouse? If this is case, it will hilite whenever you put pointer over file or folder.

i fixed so just forget about it guys but thanks alot. it turns out theres a refresh thumbnail button. duh.
