icons color problem

Hi

I've been using win2000 more than a year and it's been just fine. Lately, my icons started appearing using only 16 colors .At all other places the colors seem fine, the problem is only with icons (tray, windows explorer, desktop). The weird thing is that it happend gradually: at first when I opened my computer the icons were fine and the problem slowly crawled through the icons; now they appear with 16 colors from the first moment I open ther computer.
I would really appriciate help.

Problem Solved !

It appears that the desktop wallpapers has to be in BMP format (beats me why), and my desktop theme had an empty wallpaper with black background color, so I replaced it with a black BMP.
