I have inherited a ThinkPad 600E that had a hard disk crash.
Replaced the disk, reloaded the OS via diskette! , but cannot get the CDROM drive to work. Have purchased a replacement DVD drive but both give the same problem...
I can play music from the drives without any problem, but neither will read data. I have loaded the latest IBM CD drive firmware, without any success. Removed and reinstalled the hardware as well.
The only indication of anything amiss is the drive description in the hardware list which appears to be corrupted as folows M|T|H T|D D|D-R|M S|-8171
Any suggestions?
