Hi.

Got an IBM NetVista 8305-42A. 6 usb ports (2 at the front, 4 at the back) running WinXP Sp2. When I plug my thumb drive in, it's light comes on for a second and then blinks out. No response from the computer (no removable drive, etc.).

Looking at System --> Drivers, there is no "Universal Serial Bus controllers" group.

Under the BIOS, I have both USB options enabled.

Checking System Information, under Components, there is nothing in the USB box. Under System Drivers:

usbhub USB2 Enabled Hub c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbhub.sys Kernel Driver No Manual Stopped OK Normal No No

usbuhci Microsoft USB Universal Host Controller Miniport Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbuhci.sys Kernel Driver No Manual Stopped OK Normal No No

Anyone got any ideas on what the problem is? Why these 2 are set to manual start and are in the stopped state?

or basically

how to get the damn things working!!

Cheers

If you go into device manager does it show the ports?

No. Looking at System --> Hardware --> Device Manager, there is no "Universal Serial Bus controllers" group.
