Hi all,

I was doing a little research but could not find anything in depth about how a cisco IBM bladecenter network switch/module works and how it is managed. things i would like to know... is there a software that can be used to see which blade is connected to which port of the switch and how the entire bladecenter works from a networking point of view... Can someone shed some light or point me to the right direction? thanks in advance

It is like any other switch , it has a ip address and you telnet to it . They are basically a 2950 switch in card form. .

That would depend on the type of card installed on the bladecenter.....

Is it an Cisco IGESM (Intelligent Gigabit ethernet switching Module) or is it a D-link? (I think there may be a couple of others as well).

The best way to tell the difference is that the 4 external ports on the Cisco are marked as (something like - from memory) 17, 18, 19, 20 whereas the D-link is 1,2,3,4 (It has been a while since I worked on these so it may be the other way round).

They are hot swap anyway, so another way to tell is to take them out and look on the back end (Where the virtual 14 internal ports would be).
