Hello,

I have an old IBM 300 PL that was used on a network. I want to reformat the drive and reinstall Windows and use the machine as a stand-alone PC. I want to boot from a CD, and have set the start-up parameters in the CMOS to do so. However, it won't boot from the CD, and if it boots from my Windows start-up floppy, it does not see the hard drive. It tries to boot from the network each time I try, and gives some IRQ message.

How do I get around this problem and do a boot from a CD?

Check your IDE cable. I've seen systems that try to boot from the Network when the hard drive isn't recognized because of a bad cable. As for booting from a CD, you may have to put in the old DOS drivers that come with the CD Rom. Windows will rem them out when it installs the new OS.
