Hi Experts,

I slightly touched my PC but it refused to work anymore :(

I removed the memory strip and a card(sound?) and then set back and then switch on the PC. I then got the beeps: last 0.3 second, stopped 2 seconds, last 0.3 second, stopped 2 seconds, ......, until I switch off it.

I tried many times. In most cases, when the first beep started, the CPU fan suddenly stopped. In the rest cases the fan rounded fine.

I have tried removed all the hardwares, only remain the power, mother board, CPU and the small speaker. the 0.3-2-0.3-2-...remain the same.

I got no parts for replacement test....

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like either the memory or video card?
Remove and refit? I guess you've done that a few times already but make sure both the memory and graphics cards are properly pushed all the way home.
Reset the cmos (either with the cmos clear jumper or by removing the small button battery for a few minutes.
Now try.
It could be that the memory or video card were damaged with static when you removed them.

Thanks a lot for your help!
How to remove the small button battery ?

Try the cmos clear jumper first (refere to motherboard manual) but the battery is removed by pushing back the metal retaining clips (power cord removed)

Unfortunately, I cannot find the motherboard manual :(
What is cmos looks like?

On you motherboard, usually near the bottom edge, you should see a small round lithium button battery.
The Cmos clear jumper is normally located near to this battery, 3 pins with a jumper going across two of these 3 pins.

Remember which two pins the jumper is shorting and switch the jumper to the other side so:

If the centre and left pin are shorted, swap to centre and right the pin.

If the centre and right pin are shorted, then swap to centre and the left pin.

Leave the jumper in this position for 10 seconds then swap back (to the original run position)

You must remove mains power lead when doing this.

I have just cheked my motherboard, found 3x6 pints + 6 jumps and 3x3 pints + 3 pints.....cannot find what you mentioned.....

this link might help in locating the CMOS battery

Go to your motherboard's manufacturer's website and download your manual. You should have it on hand anyway.

As micker377 suggests, the manual will be a good thing to have, so download it from your motherboard manufactures website, usually in PDF format, so you need Acrobat reader as well (also free)

Thank you. I have gone and had a look.

Yes, I put back :)

micker377:
What I can see (without taking out it) is "CE 2600 F@". Is this the motherboard's manufacturer?

Thanks a log.

I guess the "battery removal" is the only way out. I use a sharp probe (you can use an ice pick, to carefully lift the battery enough to clear the sides of the holder it sets in, and slide it on out (unplug the system first). How old is this motherboard? The average life of that battery is 3-5 years. If it is old, you might as well replace it. It only costs a couple of dollars. Could save you from problems down the road.
