I'm all virused up yet again - I need to write zeros to my drive and reinstall everything again...

I need help with how to zero out this machine (a 40 gig hard drive ) and with restting the cmos - and anything else I need to do to make sure I am clean before I reinstall my windows xp pro...


I am stuck in a bad way as I need this machine running smoot before the weekend - I just started a new job and I have to rely on this machine...I can get to this board on another machine if I need to so any fast help is more the appreaciated - you guys have saved my rear end before I hope you all can do it again!!!

As long as you delete the partition, you're good to go.

Insert the win 2k/xp CD, boot to it, run setup.

When it gets to the point where it asks what partition to install on, make sure you first delete all existing partitions, create a new one, then proceed with the install.

Well I tried to reformat the partitions with the win xp disk and followed the prompts to a...please wait while set up formats the partition.. it got a small way into it and crashed...

I tried another time and it did the same thing...

now It just boots to an error loading op system message...

I'm totally lost now...

 
You need to delete existing partition first, then create a new partition

You cannot format a volume larger than 32 gigabytes (GB) in size using the FAT32 file system during the Windows XP installation process.

Limitations of the FAT32 File System in Windows XP


Follow the checklist in these old articles as and where they apply to you. Especially disabling any Bios virus scanner and unplugging any USB devices.
