First of all, I am confused about the MX records.

I have a small network with exchange server called Huron2

Here is the zone record

huronenviro.com. IN MX 10 huron2.huronenviro.com.
IN MX 20 huron2.huronenviro.com.
huron2.huronenviro.com. IN A 192.168.1.250

I tried to have mail.huronenviro.com as the A record, but that didn't work.

Also, should the A record point to the internal IP address?

Please help me with this one

If you want Internet mail server then it should point to the external address.

Instead of an A record for mail, use a CNAME and keep the huron2 A record:

mail IN CNAME huron2

Why do you have an MX record for Your record should look something like:

huronenviro.com. IN MX mail
mail IN A <mail server IP address>
www IN A <web server IP address>
