All of a sudden, it took much longer (i.e. more than 6 seconds as compared to about less than a second before ) to open a .txt file, or to open a .zip file by right-click on a context menu etc... in my system ( Celeron 2400Mhz, Win XP Pro Sp1) . Other functions such as deleting files , cut , paste etc... also appeared sluggish .I wonder if there is a regfix for these issues . It might be due to the fact I installed and uninstalled lots of trialwares last week. Reinstalling Windows would be my last resort so I wish to investigate other alternatives.
Please advise. Thanks,

Ylan, go to when web page finish loading up click on downloads, arrow down and click on utilities, then click on system utilities, then arrow down to bottom of page and then look for box that say all licenses, click on the down arrow next to it, then click on free, after you do this, then click on the update button, after page loads up, arrow down about half a page and look for file TWEAKNOW REGCLEANER 1.3.1 for win98/me/2000/xp, download this file, install file and then run. This should help you with your problem.

Thanks linney and pilotbill for your kind responses.

I have cleaned the registry using Regvac and jv16 PowerTools. When it still did not worked, I reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP1 . Again, nothing changed ! It appeared that the problem could be in "Windows Explorer" as the right-click context menu , "Cut", "Delete" etc... were all very sluggish . All other functions seemed normal. Please further advise.

Check running process in Task Manager (around time of hang) and see if you can spot what is using all the CPU.

A re-install of XP may also copy across any corruption from your Registry, bad drivers or corrupt third party programs.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).
