How long is a piece of string? It all depends how many servers you have and how mission critical they are.

I just wrote a 12 page list of management tasks, this was mostly using MS suggestions from their ops guides plus the following headings (not exhaustive)

Storage Capacity
Performance benchmarking and monitoring
Reviewing security
Reboots
Disaster recovery
Creating archives
Anti virus
Implementing network application upgrades
Windows 2000 services such as:
Cluster Management
DCHP
DNS
DFS
Encryption
Spooling
Terminal Services
Network Load Balancing

Change control procedures
Delegation
Planning
Active Directory Management
SQL Server Cluster Management
Cluster Management
SQL Server Management
SQL Server Tasks
General

There numerous other tasks that are performed, these are usually as a result of a problem having been reported. When there are no outstanding faults, we perform the tasks above or plan on improving the system generally.

Hope this helps

AJ
