I have win2k server installed with 350 users. I have an ISDN line 128k. Here is my senario:

Internet ISP
|
ZyXel router
|
Internet server
|
LAN
|
Domain Controller (AD)

Now i want to grant one of my user that he can access his network drive from his home. I permited him in his user account properties "Dial-in" access. Is these settings are anough or i have to do some other things? and i want to know that wat steps he (user) should take at home to get access at my server?

Thanks in advance.

Load Terminal Services and create the client disks (2 of them) for you friend to load. Give him the IP of your server and create and account for him to log on with.

You do have a static / real IP on the Server and Router correct?

I guess you want a remote user to access your server environment through the internet (rather than dial-in through a phone line RAS).

To do this, the first thing you are going to need is a public IP address. Do you have a public IP address registered on the internet?

If so, I think you should configure RRAS on a 2K server. If you are going to do this, you will also want to configure a firewall to protect your internal LAN.

But the first question is...do you have a public IP address. (Your friend will need to at least be able to ping this address from his remote location.)

1st of all Thanks

Yes i have a public ip address.

Just setup a VPN it's the cleanest, easiest and encrypts all communications

I agree. When you configure RRAS to have client VPN into your network. Joseph L. Poandl
