I have two domain names. one for my companies website and one for 2000 server. Only the website domain name is registered. I want to configure Exchange 2000 server. I will be hosting my own emails. Do I need to change my windows 2000 domain name to match my website domain name? do i need to have DNS running on the same server as Exchange or can I use any external DNS service?

Thanks for any help

Andi

no. They don't need to be the same.

You will need to have a External MX record which point to your mail server's.

Then add the external domain "smtp" email address to Default Recipient Policies in your Exchange server.

"external DNS service"

Use internal DNS and setup forwarders in DNS to go to the ISP. Do not point a Network Adapter to external DNS in Windows 2000. Unless it is BIND 8.1.2 of course. Dan
