Ok, so this is a follow up in reguards to the post on indexing before. I have the QUark index xtension, but I'm not sure on how to make it apply to the document. I have a seperate word file of the key words I want number lists on.

Can someone help me out?

OK, So now I know where to find the index window (view> show index) but still not able to figure out HOW to make the index search for the words I want. It also says that "there are no master pages that have a default linked text box in which ti flow the index". Don't know where to create a master page like that.

What I'm doing is typing in the text I want to find "Ananconda Standard" in the text box, the next two boxes I don't think have relevance, "Sort as" and "Level"
The next box heading is "reference" and I'm having it search in "Normal" style, the next selection is scope, so I'm having it search from the beginning of the selection. Then I click add, and it only finds one reference. But if I "find" Anaconda Standard it finds a lot more.

So what am I doing wrong?

I have just started using the index feature myself for a 400+ page documents and let me share what little knowledge that i have so far.

First of all the index feature seems to only work if you are working in a "Book" The index needs a separate blank documents to flow all the information into from the main document. I have done this fairly sucessfully. I usually call this index and put it as the last chapter of the book because there is an issue with the auto page numbering.

I am not sure how to intergrate the Word list that you have but what what we have been doing is going through the document and using the index window to "Tag" the text that i want to use in the index. (Should shoe up with red brackets under selected text.) Just select the text you want to index and click on the left icon near the middle that looks like a ladder(add) this will then add that text into the index list as a "First level". If you want to add items under this entry make sure this item is selected in the list and the level drop down should change to "second level".

You can then go under you utilities menu while in your book and "build index". The index will then flow itself into blank document at the end of your book.

Sorry i can't be more specific at this time but this is my first kick at the cat and I will give more info as I work with this.
