I have Access 2000 and need to bring in information currently stored in Btrieve databases (version 4.0). Is there a way to do this without creating links between the two?

Thanks,
David

You can check out BtSearch at It allows you to export your Btrieve data to dbase or ascii formats which can then be easily imported into Access. Gil

dickersd,

What is the application where the Btreive data is stored in? I use btrieve a lot (from a user standpoint, I'm no programme) and there are some pretty easy ways of doing this depending on the package you are working with.

Also, how about just setting up Pervasive ODBC and creating alink table in Access? Is there a reason why you don't want to do this? Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

I did end up getting the ODBC from Pervasive. Unfortunately, some of the fields did not get imported correctly (or I'm looking at corrupt data). The problem only seems to arise in fields that are classified as "Notes" and some of the "Text" fields (every "Note" comes across as unprintable characters and about 40% of "text" fields come across unprintable). The classifications came from Btsearch32. I'm always open to new ideas.
Thanks,
Dave

If your file has variable length fields and the programmers were "creative" in what they did it may not be possible to create DDF files on that portion of the file. You should be able to create it on the fixed portion of the file however. Some programmers used the variable length part to store several fields and used different methods to seperate the fields. But the fields were never in the same position and thus you cannot create DDF files for that part of the file.
