I guys, im new in sql server, but i started to manage an Oracle 8i database before i started in sql2k, the thing is that i find sql MUCH more easy to manage than Oracle ( then again, I wasn't an expert in oracle, i was a beginner too) Is SQL that much easier???? is that the case??? is it that much much easier or am i commiting a rookie mistake?
Thanks guys!

Yes, it is that much easier. I was trained as an Oracle programmer and my first job was learning to DBA an Oracle database. That fell through when the company decided to use MS SQL Server. I taught myself how to administer it, then after three months the company sent me to classes. I have talked to Oracle DBAs and MS SQL Server DBAs and seen this question posted over and over again. The answers are always the same....MS SQL Server is vastly easier than Oracle.

Well it depends on what you are doing. For just administrating Databases, concerning Security, Users among other mondan task YES it is, but once you start getting into other task where optimzation is concerned i would think not and especail once you get into clustering nothing is easy.

Although Orcale has far more options on configuration compared to MSSQL configuration.

Read up on table and index structures on both products and you start to see what really is involed in optimazing space and speed

I disagree with you jjgraf. You say "once you get into clustering nothing is easy", my MSSQL Server 2000 is on an active/passive cluster and it was very easy to set up.
