I get a FDC Failure when I install my SCSI adapter card.....why? 2

Hey guys,

I am trying to install a JAZ drive and a SCSI scanner on my Gateway 933. When I put my SCSI adapter card into my motherboard in a PCI slot, I get a FDC Failure at boot up.
I continue none the less to view more information. When the table comes up it reads the Floppy Drive. When I take the SCSI card out, the Floppy Drive works again. Is there a descrepency between my IRQ's? How can I fix this?

What kind of scsi and does it have a floppy port on it. If so , you have 2 floppy ports fighting for control. Ed Fair

Thanks for the quick response Ed Fair!

The SCSI card is an adaptec AHA-294OUW/Gateway supplied me with it. Unfortunetly, the card does NOT have a floppy port.
Any other suggestions? I think I am going to call gateway.

It was my impression that Gateway computers we not user upgradable. They, at least used to, put a chip on the motherboard that identified all of the original hardware by some MAC type address or serial number and it got all pissy when you tried to change/upgrade or anything.

If Gateway sent you the card then there should have been a boot disk to write that piece of hardware to the system. Maybe things have changed but it's worth asking about.

Shouldn't be any conflicts with the floppy. But I'm not familiar with that card and the addressing. IRQs shouldn't be even close. How about looking in the mangler for any evidence of conflicts. Ed Fair
