I feel like such an idiot.

I bought a new flat-panel monitor, and I can't install the driver - in Control Panel, under Settings-Advanced-Monitor, the Monitor Type is just coming up as Default Monitor, and the Properties button is greyed out.

Has anyone else come across this? (yes, this is my home computer, so I do have admin privileges)

Thank you so much!

(just did this one myself, actually)

It sounds like you need a monitor driver. There should be a disk that came with the monitor that will have this driver on there. Either it will have an installer, or you will need to go through Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and select "update driver" on the monitor and point it to the driver.

Then, if it's a widescreen flat panel monitor and you don't have widescreen resolutions defined, you might need to update your video drivers as well, depending on whether the video card supports it or not.

Hope that helps.

Good grief, that did it.

The display adapter driver had gone missing, somehow ... it had the little yellow warning icon beside it in Device Manager - and 'Monitors' didn't even show up in the device manager. Once I could hunt down the disc for the display adapter and reinstall it, now I could at least get the monitor properties.

(still having a few problems, because Windows is determined that the new monitor is LG L194WTX instead of L194WT, but I'm sure I can sort that out)

Thank you so much!!!
