I have a split database and now I need to add some fields to one of the tables in the *DB.mdb file. Access lets me add the fields in design view but doesn't save any of the changes I make. How does one change the structure of linked tables?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi!

Be sure you know where you try to alter the tables. You need to perform that on the backend database, not in your "application" (where you're queries and forms are).

In the application you, in fact, have no tables at all, just references to the tables in the back end. They look just alike, just you can't make any design changes.

Thanks. I was aware that I needed to do any alterations in the backend and that is where I was having the trouble. It now seems to be intermittent and I have been able to change the structure by copying the back end, making changes and then replacing the original with the copy. A PIA but it works.

Thanks again for your concern and suggestion.

Hi,

Your work around shouldn't be neccessary. Are the tables in use in your front-end when you are trying to make changes? Look for an explaination - it should be fairly simple.

Cheers

I think that may have been the problem since I've since been able to make some changes.

Thanks, Bear
