I cannot ping but can access the drive of a server. Why?

I have a server that shares a network drive to everyone. I normally use terminal service to manage the server. However, I cannot access the server by using the terminal service today. I could not pink the server, too.
But I can still access the network drive data from the server from the drive mapped in my computer. Does anyone know what is happening?
