My Windows XP SP2 has been working flawlessly until a couple of days ago when I tried to clear the autocomplete in IE6
When I try to clear the autocomplete entries, my WinXP just reboots......and autocomplete entries are still there.

I tried using a non destructive system recovery to no avail and also tried in safe mode but the same thing happens.

Anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks

run your anti-virus program and see if it finds anything or go to and run a scan. Seems like a long shot, but I have no clue why clearing autocomplete would cause the system to reboot.

I think it was just a cocindence that it happened as he was clearing it. I think he probally picked up a virus that day and he just happened to clear auto complete as well. Follow what kevin said and if that does not work download hijackthis from the link below and extract to desktop or prefered folder. Open it up and choose do a system scan and save a logfile and post the logfile on here and I or someone else will go through it for you.

it sounds to me like everytime he/she now tries to clear autocomplete the system reboots.

Try this.

Internet Explorer Fix

Followed by.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Look at this too.

Make sure your options in IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced are correct.

Try running temporarily with the box "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" unchecked and see how this goes.

"This specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature. You must restart Internet Explorer after turning this option on or off."

If that stops your errors, you will know where the trouble is.

Then go down this track.
