I am in the process of re-building a Novell server. I currently have 2 on site svr1 and svr2. They are both Novell 5.x servers. I am rebuilding svr1 (which is the primary NDS server) and so I want to promote svr2 to primary during the rebuild. Is there anything that I should watch out for when I do this?

you mean you want to move the partition master across?

make sure each has a copy of all partitions , verify in dsrepair that all is in sync
run dsrepair -a and verify no stuck obits - this is the check external refs

if all ok then on server that isnt holding master go into the ring and select partition and then select designate as master replica

as you are only going to have one server - i would backup the ds
or at least take a dib

Hi,

After making sure that DS is heathy, properly remove srv1 from the tree using NDS Manger or by removing NDS from the server or you may have a tough time adding it back in.
