I am a beginner in this field:

what are the preparations required to have Intranet and Internet sites mereged together? I am going to be using ASP, SQL, dreamweaver.

This is more of a question for your company's Website Support Services folks. Going from Intranet to Internet is usually easy but going the other way can often be a challange. You my have to access the Intranet from the Internet via a SSL connection. But like I said, the people that set up IIS security will be able to help you.
