Hyperlinks in Protected Word documents

I have a word document, in 2000, that i need to have protected. However, i have a number of hyperlinks within the document that do not work when i protect the document. Therefore, when i send this out to be used, the hyperlink does not work.

How do i get this to work? Thank you for your help already.
