Hyperlink problems in Powerpoint

OK, My friends, here is the situation. My end user has a ppt presentation that contains a hyperlink to an excel spreadsheet in the same directory. On windows 95 machine I can open this just fine and click on the hyperlink and everything runs smooth. On windows 2000 machine, immediately after I click on the presentation, I am presented with an error msg: "PPT couldn't create a hypelink to." Nothing opens.
I tried opening excel first. This did not help.

Note---This is ppt and excel 97
Please advise.

Try launching PowerPoint, and before running the presentation, recreate the hyperlink.

I can't get to the presentation.
The error comes up immediately after launching ppt.

Reinstall Office. It sounds as though PowerPoint itself is the problem. A way to test this is to try to open a different presentation.
Another option (which I seem to have suggested a lot lately) is to rename the file to *.pps . This way it doesn't use PowerPoint.

I found a resolution to this problem:

To fix the problem you will need to rename the file Hlink.DLL to Hlink.old, and
then run the IE5 setup use the following steps.

1. Put the Office 2000 CD - 1 in the CD-ROM drive

2. Make sure all applications are closed and anti-virus software disabled.

3. Select Start Run on the Taskbar.

4. Type <CD-Rom drive letter>:\IE5\EN\IE5setup.EXE in the window and press OK

5. Follow the windows and accept license, select Typical install option. When a
dialog window displays Reinstall all Items? you need to select Reinstall All
Components and then press OK.

6. After the reinstall you will need to restart Windows. This should fix the
Hyperlinks problem
