I am building a web-based app with 10g AS (via PL/SQL packages) and am trying to mimic the MS Access hyperlink datatype. Specifically, I need to implement a <input type="file"...> functionality on a web form and plop a followable hyperlink in that text box. Thus far I have not succeeded & the best I can do is an awful mess. It appears you cannot put a live hyperlink into an HTML input box or text area.

It also appears that Oracle, even at 10g, does not have datatype corresponding to a hyperlink. If there is, I can't find it. Seems odd, since Oracle is so web-centric these days.

Anyone have any ideas on this, or any idea how such functionality can be achieved?

Many thanks in advance ---

Bob

Bob,

Although I have done tons of database-to-webpage generation via Oracle, I'm sorry that I don't have specific experience with the feature you mention. My suggestion is that if you have access to Oracle's MetaLink, that you log a Technical Assistance Request (TAR). "Nobody does it better," than Oracle Tech Support.

Mufasa,

Well, it is primarily an HTML limitation. I'm just trying to find a clean way to do it without leaving extraneous form elements on the form to confuse the user. It's messy, but may be my only choice. Actually < 1% of the records in the current Access DB even use this feature. So I'm gonna try to probe the customer next week on whether that feature is even really needed. If somebody needs a reference attachment, then why not just email it to whoever needs it --- doing a mailto: is easy ....

We shall see .... just thought I'd toss out the question. Who knows? Someone may have had that problem & found a clever way to do it!!!

Take care -------- Bob

PS ..... will also get into Metalink & see what Ifind there.....
