We have an IBM system that doesn't have an OS installed. We came up with a bright idea, install Vista (CTP)and get to know the product to some degree. The thing is how do I know if the system is hardware compatable with Vista. The system is 1 year old this month.

With out an OS, the Vista Advisor will not work, additionally I tried the advisor on another workstation here that does run Windows XP, and the advisor failed to complete the scan. Beta version...go figure.

The Upgrade Advisor is also part of the Vista setup when run from DVD (you do need a DVD drive).

With a late model machine, and no installed software or operating system, you shouldn't hit too many snags with a clean install.

Give it it a go and see what happens. If it is a failure, then Microsoft have the opportunity to fix things while Vista is still in Beta mode.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'll give it a try.
