Hunting back to original VM

I have two phones that roll to the same assistants phone. One rolls back to his VM if the Asst. does not answer. Thats good. The other goes to the Asst. VM if not answered. Not good.

Both phones are setup the same (as far as I can tell).

Where should I look next?

Check Call Forward/No Answer & Number of Rings. The 2 phones going to the assistant should be set to lower number of rings (ie: 4-rings) than the assistant (ie: 6-rings). This way if call is unanswered by either (user or assistant), call goes to user's mailbox. Check the phone that works correctly and setup same # of rings for other phone.
