Hi All,

I am running a Windows 2000 domain with Active Directory.
I am running Backup Exec 8.6 for Windows 2000 Servers. I had to uninstall Backup Exec because it completely stop working.

I reinstalled Backup Exec. I backup up the same
Servers, same drives and folders, but now it is backing up way too slow.

For example, I used to backup my Exchange server with a rate of 290 mb/min...now it is backing up with a rate of
61.9 mb/min.

Does anyone know why the huge speed decrease?
Can anyone help me?

Thank you for your time.

Have you tried a new tape? That being said, look at the software that came with the drive, or check with the manufacturer. Usually you can find a diagnostic utility to test the drive. Any new background apps that might be running? What changes occured before you had the original problem? And what do you mean it completely stopped?

Matt,

Yes I tried 2 new whole sets of tape. Yes I even ran test on my HP DLT tape machine. That is fine. No new background apps running. It stop completely working because I had to space on my C: drive. So the only thing I did was uninstall Backup Exec 8.6 and installed it on my D: drive.

I have a question. Should I be running Veritas drivers for the HP DLT machine? Thanks for you help.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. verify your SCSI card drivers are upto date, and download/install the newest tape drivers from veritas. between those 2 things my backups were back to normal again

Make sure your network speed and duplex is the same. I ran into this where the BE server, the target server and the switch were all set to Auto negotiation. The switch acted up and was running at half duplex where everything else ran a full. That was really slowing down our backups.

Good luck!
Jamie
