Hi everyone,

I'm having problems with DNS. The following error message is returned in the event log:

Event ID: 1581

Failed to resolve the DNS hostname 26715c11-4a35-4d64-a8a9-a46f87165752._msdcs.MYDOMAIN.NET into an IP address. The error returned was: The requested name is valid and was found in the database, but it does not have the correct associated data being resolved for.

I'd really appreciate your help!

The above is from eventids.net. Does it help at all? Good luck.

Hi Glen,

Thanks for your reply. What I have noticed is that one of my backup DC's are missing _msdcs, etc. from it's DNS settings. I'm experiencing some really big problems at the moment as the hard drive on my master DC failed. Because of the problems with my backup DC, I had to promote my DC at a remote site to be the master. I've been trying to create a new DC for my main site, but with no luck at all. When trying to do a DCPROMO, it fails half way through. I think (I actually know) I've got huge DNS problems.

Ouch. That will cause problems. Can you quickly re-build it and do a restore from a backup. That would be the quickest solution I could think of. Good luck. Keep in touch.

Glen,

If it only was that easy. The guy that I put in charge of doing backups, never selected system state to be backed up. I'm trying to rebuild the DC and replicate (DCPROMO) from another site... which is not going very well either!

Thanks for the advice so far...

Good luck. Without the system state, you're going to have a real challenge.
