HTTP 400 - Bad Request when launching Windows Updates
Has anyone seen this before and how do I resolve?

Thanks!!

Are you using an admin account when running the Windows Updates?

GVN

first URL did not work
I checked the two solutions that you gave me and could not find a resolution to this problem.

ANything else?

THanks!!

Saw this on the internet, not sure if it will fix it, but can't hurt to try:

1.Go 2 the start menu
2.Right click "my computer"
3.Click "properties" then the "automatic updates"
tab
4.Choose "turn off automatic updates"
5.Reboot your computer
6.Go back to start menu and in all programs go to "windows update" you have to be connected to the internet.
7.Manually update windows.
8.Turn your automatic updates back on.

Sorry, I can't manually find KB892130 either... I was sure MSDN would have it, but after I started searching for it, I can't manually find it either...

MS and their patches...

Check your hosts file

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

You can open it with Notepad.

Are there any entries there for Microsoft?

You could always re-apply the Service Pack and see if that helps...

what do you think about installing IE7...do you think that would work?

I am currently at IE6?

IE7 *could possibly* fix it, I don't know. Is this a home PC or work machine? Some sites/portals still haven't been tested against IE7, I know that because I get e-mail notices telling me so from vendors...

I'm not saying that it's a bad idea though.

Don't bother upgrading to IE7 to fix this problem. That shouldn't make any difference.

If this PC is part of a domain (say at work), then perhaps that site is being blocked on the network side, such as at the proxy. Go here and see if clicking the "Security & Updates" link over to the right still fails:
