I've been running apache for years and had no problem with it until recently..

whenever i try to access a local virtual host i can never get to it

eg.
i type in: development
and i get a not found page and the URL changes to this:

anyone else come across this? maybe its not apache but something else installed?.. not sure...
 
That's an internet explorer thing saying that it didn't find "development" You might consider turning off friendly error messages in the Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Browsing Section. Then you'll get the real error unless it's a dns error and "development" doesn't exist anymore.
