HTML Server Controls are much lighter weight, and will ultimately result in much better page load times and overall throughput, especially when the app is under heavy load.
Web Server Controls give you a better programming model to work with (more useful properties & methods), but require much more work on the part of the server to render, thereby decreasing the aforementioned page load times and overall throughput.
With .NET controls you can do things eazier that using HTML. Use both if you like. As u say it is busy.... Have u ever thought of cashing your page for eg 24 hours? (if data changed once a day use cashing).
It is your choice; It might be alot easier if you use .NET controls
