Can someone give me a little guidance please.

We deploy an HTML Help system (.chm) to many clients, mostly windows based but some using Citrix. We would like to stick with the .chm format as the majority of our windows users prefer the format.

Until now we have not had any problems with either platform. The help system is created with RoboHelp HTML X5 and used browse sequences, glossary (HHActiveX.dll) and HTML Help Shortcuts controls.

A couple of our Citrix users are having problems with the HTML Shortcuts which we use to link directly to Word, Excel and PDF documents. The links just don't work at all. What should happen is that the user clicks on the link and the shortcut opens the word/excel/pdf file directly.

I wondered if anyone out there has managed to run HTML Help to Citrix and whether they have ever used HTML Shortcuts or indeed another linking method (via HTML Help) to open external documents directly in a program. If you have had any success with using this feature on citrix please let me know.

Another Help Author says that he experienced the same problem with shortcuts in HTML help when run on Citrix. He said that it might have something to do with the help engine being specified as a "published application" in Citrix.

Do Citrix administrator have any option other then making the HTML Help engine a "published application"? or is this the preferred method of installing the engine.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Craig

Hi,

Do you have Word/Excel/Reader installed on your citrix box?

If you do and it still doesn't work, do you have the Citrix server drives remapped? If so, your code may start Word from a set location ie C:\Program Files........ Now, because Citrix drives are remapped, then C: won't exist and therefore fail so you may have to use environment variables and ensure that you start "%SystemDrive%\Program Files......

Does this help?
Carl.

Hi Carl,

Yes it does help! Thanks so much.

I'm not that familiar with Citrix, but the IT people I'm dealing with will probably find this information really helpful. My expertise lies in creating and delivering online help and to be honest Citrix has not caused me any problems before. We deliver a product (policies and procedures) using the .chm online help format and these links are the only functionality causing a problem on Citrix.

I'll have a chat with the people responsible for installing these procedures on a Citrix box and see what they think. If it resolves the issue, I'll be sure to post back as this will hopefully help someone else one day.

Ultimately, I'd like to provide some 'Installation Instructions / Guidelines for Citrix' but this whole are is new to me. I'm also finding it very difficult to find helpful tutorials for Citrix - all the information I find on the web just seems to jump straigh up to intermediate/expert.

Again, thanks for your help!
Craig

Hi,

If you download the PDF files from Citrix and have a read of this forum there are many sites listed in previous posts.

Feel free to ask here and I'm sure we'll answer.

My day to day job is Citrix Admin but was an installation enginner and have worked with Citrix software for 6 years.

Cheers,
Carl.

Thanks for the heads up Ogi.
I'll have a look through the posts as you suggested, this site seem very user friendly!

Kind Regards
Craig
