I have an .htaccess protected directory, that has a number of subdirectories.. upon entering the subdirectory, you must reenter your username and password. (there is no second .htaccess file in the subdirectory)

The only difference I can see, is when asked for your username and password the first time, the usual pop up says: Enter your username and password for "members only" at
The second request, when entering a subdirectory, says: Enter your username and password for "members only" at xxxxx.com

-- the been dropped.. now I can see that this to apache, would appear as a different location, but how is the dropped in the first place..

Any help would be appreciated..

Thanks!

How are you getting from a location in the main protected directory to a location in one of the protected subdirectories?

If it's via a link on the page from the main protected subdirectory, check your HTML links. It may not be specifying the " part of the URL in the link.

Hi.. yes that was one of the first things I checked. I get there via a link in a java menu program.
