I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I have had to learn the PIX 515R through "on-the-job" experience. I'm familur with it, but my boss has asked me to redesign the network. Our new provider is offering to supply us with two 10Mbps lines setup in a HSRP config on there routers. 10Mbps half-duplex in on one and 10Mbps half-duplex out on the other. If I purchase another 515R can I put one on the inbound route and one on the outboung. According to our provider, if one router fails the other switches to full-duplex and takes over in and out traffic. Sound good in theory, but I don't know if it works. Thanks

Don't think so. If the ISP is configuring two router in a HSRP configuration then your firewall will only see one router, a "virtual router."

Actually HSRP works like this: One router always carry the traffic. If this goes down the other one takes over. So, one of the router's is always standing by, no traffic is passing.

That's what I meant! With HSRP you configure two routers, one that handles your trafic and the other that provides failover connectivity. However, as far as the network is concerned there is only one router, the virtual router.. If the primary fails and the backup takes over, the network still sees the same virtual router as the gateway, although it's actually a different physical router that's passing the traffic.
