HPUX printing to RedHat 6.2 server and workstations.

I have a 'remote' printer defined on the HP9000, running HPUX 10.2, the printer I&quot;m trying to reach is attached to a RedHat 6.2 parallel port on a redhat server, which works fine from within the redhat box itself.&nbsp;&nbsp;The IP address on the HP for the remote printer is the IP address for the redhat server.&nbsp;&nbsp;I can send the jobs from the HP, they go to the designated remote printer on the HP, and sit!!!&nbsp;&nbsp;nothing ever gets over to the Linux box, or the linux printer Queue.<br><br>Both the HP and the linux box have each others IP addresses in the hosts file, I've made entries in the /etc/hosts.allow, /etc/hosts.lpd.&nbsp;&nbsp;When I send the job from the HP, the msg comes back that the printer 'name' does not have lp access.&nbsp;&nbsp;The two machines are on the same physical network a 10.2.x.x series with the same subnet of 255.255.0.0, in house local use only.<br><br>It has been suggested that I should print to the redhat box as another host instead of trying to reach the printer directly. <br><br>This is driving me nuts, can someone give me some directions with specifics please.&nbsp;&nbsp;My objective is to set up linux pc's with parallel printers attached to them and enable printing from the HP box, as well as X app's, and also an AS400 which printed easily with emulation software.<br><br>That brings to mind that I&quot;m using only an Xterm window and telnet to connect to the HP, from within X on the Linux Box, the HP is not running any Xservers.

see if lpd and lpr are running on your redhat system.

Is the printer a HP printer?. Does it have an internal jet direct card ? Can you ping the printer from the HP box? Did you configure the printer as a network printer on the HP? I'm not sure what you mean when you say that the printer is on the Redhat box. You should be able to print to it (from both hosts) as long as it is on the same LAN and subnet. In other words this needs to be a network printer.&nbsp;&nbsp;
