HPLJ 4L Printer Noise - Will not Feed Paper, Sensors Where???

I have an HPLJ 4L. Have the cover off to see where the noise is coming from but can't get the printer to cycle. I have held in the sensor on the top of the printer where the cover would be and close but that is not helping. There must be other sensors that due to having the cover (or case) completely off is causing the printer to read that there is no paper in the printer. The paper tray is fully installed with paper. Any clues, please advise.

what sort of noises are you experiencing ? does the printer still function OK ? If in doubt get the Ball Pein Hammer out

NO, the printer is not functioning and it is making a gear grinding noise. A bad paper jam caused he problem and I suspect that there is a gear or something that has popped out of place. The printer will not cycle at all, thus I can't see the movement of the gears to see where the noise is coming from. The led's are showing a paper error however they were fine with the cover on... and the printer would cycle but now with the cover off it will not cycle even though I am depressing the sensor to make it think the cover is on.

i get ya. cant remember off top of head where other sensors are, the thing is they may not be switch activated they maybe light activated or something, therefore i suggest re-assembly and test with all parts on then try and locate fault area. have you repaired laser printers b4 ? have you got a replacement, if you have just get stuck in aboot it If in doubt get the Ball Pein Hammer out
