I have NT on a HP NetServer 5/100 LC. The tape drive is connected to a SCSI controller.

Problem: The tape drive device does not show up in MY COMPUTER folder on my desktop. The only way I can access the tape drive is through my backup software that only displays my C: hard disk (not any network devices).

Question: How can I map my network hard disks and backup or copy them to tape? I can't address the tape drive, so I can't do a drag and drop. The software doesn’t recognize the network hard disks. I only can address the tape drive through the backup software that won't let me map or specify the tape device other than my C: hard drive.

Is SCSI tape different breed? Or do I need new backup software to recognize a SCSI tape device and network hard drives?
Any help would be appreciated.....
What backup software are you using?
Al
atc-computing@home.com

Will it see other local drives? How about repartitioning to have a d: then come across the network to d:, then do a backup of d:. This could also be a drive solution.
What about another network? I've used lantastic in parallel wiht nt networking to get access in an easier format.
With the right software and hardware SCSI tapes are no different than anything else. Sounds like you are either on the bleeding edge or have fallen off the trailing edge with your TD.
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.
If you are trying to use NT backup then yes you will be very limited to what you can see.
Al
atc-computing@home.com
