Hi guys,

I am having trouble with an HP Scanjet 7450c. If I want to scan through the ADF, I get the error "Sorry, an error has ocurred saving to the file. (File write errors file may be read-only). This happens when I try to scan only through the ADF, a manual scan gives no trouble. It is worth to mention that this only happens to user's accounts, not to the administrator account…

Have you been to the HP Scanjet site and downloaded the latest XP driver for this scanner?

Yes I did... downloaded some fixes and patches also but still have the same problem...

But of course if anyone else can help... I would really appreciate it.

Make sure that the permissions for the Scanning Software in Program Files are correct for users to run the software correctly. You might have to increase limited users access to various files that the scanner software uses. Things to watch out for are write permissions to log, dat or configuration type files.

Running Legacy Software on XP with a limited user Account

The only other thing I can think of is that you install the software in each username's folder, or use the RunAs command.

Exactly the same thing happened on a 8250 scanner... what I did was only to check the permissions (as you told)... I didn't even had to modify them or add any write permission, I just had a look at them and it started working fine.

I did the same on the 7450's software, but nothing happened... Thread779-676827 is a good one, in fact I really want to use that program, but it is forbidden for us to run shareware (a big pain in the neck eh?). I think I'll try installing the software in another folder... I'll let you know...

Linney: The 8250 software doesn't need write permission on it's folders. The 7450 needs write permission. Don't ask me why... I just found out the solution :) Thanks a lot for your help!
