HP Procurve 4208vl to HP Procurve 4208vl connection

Just wondering why my 2 HP Procurve 4208vl switches (with gigabit ports) connected to each other via 1 foot CAT6 straight through patch cable only negotiate 100 Mbps/Full Duplex. The ports were configured Auto. I tried Auto-1000 but it didn't work.

Was the 1' CAT6 patch cable pre-made or did you make it yourself?

I would, just for couriosity sake, try another patch cable...one that is preferably got a little more length to it, out of a package, and does not matter if it's CAT5e or CAT6 just to see if that makes any difference.
