my friend has an hp system. i think its around 600 mhz. anyway on bootup it has that dumb blue screen saying hp on it. you cant access the bios config or do anything. he is in a loop of going into safe mode. on boot up the little list DOES NOT come up that lets you choose to go into safe mode or normal mode. he keeps rebooting and it keeps just bringing him back into safe mode. is there a way to get around this blue screen to see the choices for how to boot up. i dont know assembly but i figure the blue screen is assembly since assembly is on the motherboard. if i should post in another form please tell me where but this was the only form i could think of that related to it. any help would be great. thanks.

If the OS *your friend* uses is Windows 98, you can tell *your friend* he should hold one of the Control keys to get the menu. If it's Windows 95 *your friend* uses, you can advise *your friend* to press F4 or F8.
Also, *your friend* should be able to access at least some BIOS config by pressing DEL, F1, F10 or some other key during boot up.
And on a motherboard you can only find circuits, not assembly. Assembly is a set of mnemonics, standing for machine instructions that are processed by the CPU. It is invented because it's easyer to remember MOV AX,BX than the corresponding machine instruction 89D8. Regards,

when i was at kurts house i tried doing the del thing but not f1 or f10 i will tell him to do that but you dont have to access the bios right now. plus i wouldnt trust him with messing with his bios. kurt uses windows me should i tell him to use the control keys for that also? thanks.
I'm not sure if Window ME even HAS that little bootup menu... I have this vague idea it doesn't, but you should try to check it out, try pressing F8 when the blue screen comes up, keep tapping it. "Information has a tendency to be free. Which means someone will always tell you something you don't want to know."

Just click the ESC key to remove the blue screen then try the del, F1, etc....
