I have tried everything with this notebook and it is still causing hairloss!
The notebook is an HP Pavilion ze4800us running xp home.
The guy it belongs to was complaining about a key being stuck on the keyboard. Basically it would boot up correctly and when you were prompted to log into Windoze, the password space would be automatically filled. I took the keyboard out and booted the machine up with an external keyboard attached, still filling out the password. I booted in safemode and luckily the admin account wasn't password protected, I found that the machine is constantly issuing key presses for the "Y" key! I initially thought that it could have been an OS problem but after reinstalling XP found that not to be the case, i have tried a spare hardrive with Linux on it and it is still the same. The only thing i can think of is a motherboard problem relating to the keyboard.
Just wondering if any of you guys have come across a similar problem or indeed the same problem and what you found to be the source of the problem?
Thanks for reading.
