I have used the recovery CD to reinstall windows 98 on an HP Pavilion 6308.I used the selective recovery option on the recovery disk. The CD rom is now D drive instead of M; and the application CD does not recognise the computer as the correct machine.Any clues as to what to do?

My wifes PC is an HP,XE783 which also has the recovery disk I have had a couple of times when the CD-ROM would not work Because the system did not reconize it but the system sayes it is working correctly , What I did was delete it in the system and rebooted .when I did this the driver was reinstalled and it worked correctly. You can change the DriveDesigation in the system also that will take care of noy having C drive, Ciick on the drive go to properites -setting

Thank you nightowl. I actually did go to the device manager and rename the CD ROM back to M: drive and it solved the problem, which is what you suggested. Tricky lil devils these HP's sometimes Thank you Purdy
