My son was goofing off with some friends and changed my BIOS password on my laptop (HP Omnibook 2000) and I had found what I thought to be the CMOS battery and left it unplugged for the weekend but no luck... is there anyway around this????

PLEASE HELP Keith Buchanan

I'm not at all sure about this, but it could be that the main battery is used in stead of the CMOS battery. Have you tried removing both batteries at once?
This is just a wild stab in the dark, but I thought that it might be worth a try :)

yeah actually i took out both the cmos battery which was hid under the keyboard and the regular batter, and also had the power supply unplugged... No LUCK.... It seems to me that the BIOX info may be stored in a isloated partition on the hard drive?? is this possible if anyone knows please let me know.. Keith Buchanan

there should be a way to flash the bios, which would take care of your problems. call hp's tech help and see if there is.

this is another stab in the dark, but if you have a little reset button did you try that? (probably won't do anything though)

GOOD LUCK!

Some laptops and what not are impossible to deal with. If you have a warranty, now may be a good time to use it. The warranty people may have an emergency password that can open any BIOS. If you can get into it, now would be a good time to look into backing up the BIOS with no password. Flashing the bios did sound like a possibility.

You can always hire a hypnotist to make your son recall the password (Or make him quack like a duck). On the other hand, you could lock your son up with nothing but your computer till he can open it. No phone, no computer, no friends, no Nintendo, no games no TV. When he asks you for money, tell him if he can remember the password you will give him $100.00. Bribery is a good incentive.

My brother-in-law's daughter lost their car once and they found out where it was by calling all of her friends. They had left it in the middle of a farmer's field. Seeing it was a work truck, that didn't belong to him, he was quite motivated to find it.

If you call all of his friends, they might remember the password. They probably used some kind of silly password like a character in a game or something like that. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

EXCERPT.

"There is no universal password. You can get the password reset by sending the info indicated in the file attached, along with the document filled out. The fax number is within the document. There isn't a cost for this as it's just plain support, not service. Phone HP Technical Support if you have any questions. "
