I have an HP LJ4 on an NT 4.0 network with Win 98 workstations. Frequently, but not always, the device will print the first page of a document, then just spits out endless pages with 2 or 3 lines of garbage. The document type doesn't seem to matter--Word 2000, pdf's, internet files. The documents will print on other HP models. It seems to happen more often when multiple documents are queued in the spooler. Any ideas?

You may have a bad data line or printer cable, bad JetDirect card or maybe a bad port on the hub (if it's networked). Usually you get garbage out of these printers like that when they are sent a job they don't understand. To see what I mean print a job with a deskjet driver sometime! =)
It sounds like your transmission is getting messed up along the way and your printer doesn't know what to do with the rest of the job. Hopefully that helps!
