Once upon a time our HP Laserjet 4050TN would print in the morning without a fuss but now it makes us reboot the server every morning. We are running a microsoft os with a JetDirect network card but the card does not seem to be the problem. Jobs just get queued when we try to print in the morning and will not print until the server is restarted. Does this look like a MS problem or a printer problem or should we try to reinstall the printer or what? Any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated?

when you hit test on the jetdircet does it print it sound you may need to reconfiger it So long and thanks for all the fish.

Everything seems to work fine after the server is rebooted, it only gets wierd overnight but I'll check into reconfiguring it. Thanks.

Check the Windows Services for the PrintSpooler service stopping and erroring out.

You can, at least in 2k, set restart parameters for the service to occur automatically on errors.

Another thing to check would be if you are running DHCP. The DHCP server may be set to expire leases for IP's on a daily basis. Which would require the printer to get a new IP everyday. Rebooting the printer forces the printer to get a new lease.
